New study finds 7 in 10 Filipinos regularly eat late at night, turning midnight snacking into a lifestyle habit shaped by convenience, emotion, and technology
11 November 2025, Manila, Philippines — Late-night eating has emerged as a defining trend among Filipinos, according to a new nationwide study by Agile Data Solutions, through its survey arm Hustle PH. The report reveals that nearly seven in ten Filipinos regularly experience late-night cravings between 10 PM and 2 AM, fueled by convenience, emotional triggers, and the growing accessibility of 24/7 food delivery platforms.
Once an occasional indulgence, midnight snacking has transformed into a daily lifestyle routine, as technology makes it easier than ever to satisfy cravings instantly.
Majority of Filipinos Eat Late Into the Night
The study found that 68% of Filipinos eat late several times a week, while another 10% do so occasionally. Emotional and social factors dominate the triggers: stress (44%), binge-watching (44%), and parties (37%).
Most orders occur between 10 PM and 2 AM, forming a dependable window for delivery services and food brands. While some users order within minutes, others take up to half an hour—indicating both impulsive and planned late-night behavior.

What Fuels Late-Night Cravings
Late-night eating goes beyond hunger. While 37% order because they’re hungry, 33% say they crave specific flavors. Savory snacks like fries, pizza, and burgers dominate at 54%, followed by full meals (24%), while 10% crave sweets and 9% prefer drinks.

Cravings are closely tied to screen time and lifestyle habits: 46% eat while binge-watching, 40% while working late, and 32% due to restlessness. For many, midnight meals are a form of comfort and connection, not just consumption.
Food Delivery Apps at the Center of the Trend
The widespread use of food delivery apps has made late-night dining more accessible. Agile’s data shows that 74% of Filipino users have ordered food between 10 PM and 6 AM, with weekend orders rising by 38%.
Among smartphone users—who make up 94% of respondents—Foodpanda (52%) and GrabFood (49%) lead as the preferred apps. Despite digital convenience, 61% of Filipinos still choose cash on delivery, reflecting continued reliance on traditional payment methods.
Late-night ordering is both personal and social: 44% eat alone, while 50% share food with family or friends.

Affordability, Speed, and Quality Drive Satisfaction
Late-night eaters are highly price-sensitive. 77% keep spending modest, with nearly half spending below ₱200 and another 40% between ₱200 and ₱400. Discounts and promotions play a key role, with 51% saying they “always” or “often” order because of deals.
However, consumers continue to face challenges. Limited food variety (52%), long wait times (45%), and high delivery fees (36%) were cited as major frustrations. Respondents said they would order more often if platforms reduced fees, extended store hours, and improved delivery times.

From Impulse to Everyday Lifestyle
Agile Data Solutions notes that late-night eating has evolved from spontaneous craving to a recognized lifestyle norm. Emotional satisfaction, affordability, and technological ease have made midnight meals a sustained behavioral shift in Filipino culture.
“Late-night eating has clearly evolved from impulse to habit,” said Jason Gaguan, Co-founder, Agile Data Solutions. “Filipinos now see midnight meals not just as indulgence, but as comfort—an experience enabled by convenience, community, and trust in food delivery apps.”
As demand grows, Agile predicts the next wave of late-night dining will focus on healthier options, better value, and enhanced customer experience, redefining how Filipinos connect food with comfort, convenience, and connection—even after dark.
